# Valid Domain Names

In V1, a valid domain name is defined as having the following characteristics:

* Only lowercase a-z characters.
* A length greater than 6 characters.
* No numbers or symbols of any kind.

These restrictions are meant to reduce the possibilites for phishing attempts and limit squatting on valuable domain names before the system is more widely adopted.
